As a child, I adored Superman. In school and at home, I would draw him all the time. I taught myself how to draw the “S” shield and, eventually, Superman himself. But I had this problem when I drew him: I could never finish the picture. Proud of my creation, I would keep adding more to my Superman. More and more lines; more and more “stuff”. More seams to the costume, longer cape, bigger muscles. Eventually, I would realize I ruined my once good Superman picture with clutter, so I would crumple the paper up and throw it out.
Injustice’s designs should have been thrown out.
This designs are awful. Godawful. God. Fucking. Awful. There’s no reason for all of that “stuff” on these designs. The line-work on Superman makes no sense! Batman looks like a mass of metal taped together! The Flash is a face-plate away from being Iron Man! I don’t care if these are “evil” versions of the heroes, these are just bad designs. Superman Blue, Knightquest Batman-awful.
Simplicity is the key to good, memorable design. So much so, after I post this, I have a feeling I’ll forget I’ve ever seen this picture.
Meanwhile, in Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom…
It’s good to be a Marvel guy.
There’s this huge difference between MKvDC/Injustice and MvC. And the difference is the level of seriousness. DC games have this serious overlay to them, this grim and gritty tone that makes the whole concept quite unnerving actually. Superman tossing the Flash into space isn’t cool and exciting in this setting, it’s frightening. There’s blood and sweat on the ground and everything’s muted. It’s not fun.
Meanwhile you look at MvC3 and you get WHAM BAM BOOM AW YEAH COLORS and big poppy visuals, jokes, announcers calling out to you. It’s all fun and bright. It doesn’t take itself seriously, so seeing She-Hulk toss a car at Captain America is all a joke. You aren’t freaked out by it because of the presentation.
DC has few heroes that have animal based powers including, Animal-Man, Vixen, and Beast Boy.
Does marvel have any?
